MIZUNO 1950S JAPAN TIN ELECTROMOBILE 8 BUICK with HEADLIGHTS/F&R MOTOR RESTORED

  

This Mizuno 8 electromobile is a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Made in Japan in the 1950s, this tin car is a perfect addition to any vintage toy collection. The car features working headlights and a functional Forward & Reverse motor, making it a unique and fun piece for kids and adults alike.

The brand Mizuno is known for its high-quality toys and this one is no exception. Somehow in cleaning my moms basement it was placed with some of the toys I wanted to keep. Several times I thought about throwing it away as that is what my brother said to do with it.

I decided to try to restore it for him. I put steel/nickel hubcaps on it made from vintage chair gliders. 2, all solder joints were redone. 3, The motor was cleaned, bearings greased and pivots oiled.

Tested and goes forward and reverse. 4, both light and motor switches were cleaned, painted and tested. 5, the battery compartment was in poor shape and I used rust remover and then painted it. 6, The rubber wheels were cleaned and painted.

7, The steering gear was missing. I used Westclox setting gear and added a brass link, tapped and used the brass set knob. I also had to make a brass gear lever stabilizer. After all that it works as it should. 8, I cleaned and repainted chassis after removing the body.

9, I removed the bumpers and ports and soaked everything in clock cleaner to remove several layers of black paint. 10, wet sanded the body and parts and primed them. 11, I then wet sanded one more time and applied the blue paint.

I did have a problem as soon as I applied my final coat a bug decided to land on the roof, requiring yet another sanding and repaint. 12, I made a windshield and rear window but I did not put in a center post on the windshield.

I made rear tail lights from a broken tail light and used glass beads which I put blue dots. 13, I tried to make a Buick trunk ornament from clay but it only turned out fair to good. 14, I also made a Buick hood ornament from clay and I believe it is really too big but not bad. I found two new bulbs and cleaned the bulbs and their contacts Both work. This is not a perfect model direct from a box but one that faced a landfill but it now has a reprieve even if my brother still does not want it.
