1950s SAMMY WONG THE TEA TOTALER in BOX Battery Toy by ROSCO RARE

  

This listing is for a vintage SAMMY WONG THE TEA TOTALER made by Roscoe in the 1950s. This is a rather large battery toy measuring approximately 12 inches tall and is made of tin with a rubber face/hands, plastic tea set, and realistic clothing. It is in excellent condition overall, I believe not played with, complete with often missing hat, cup, and "tea leaves" in the cup.

Comes with a very nice box complete with inserts. The box features great period graphics. The toy still works great--Sammy pours a cup of tea and and takes a sip while the base of the pot lights up, and then repeats the action. Surprisingly, a bit of steam still comes out of the spout when the smoke box warms up after a few cycles.

Note that the glue used around the cuffs tended to discolor/deteriorate the fabric so gold trim matching the box was added for cosmetics. A rare toy, especially complete and working. This item is in the category "Toys & Hobbies\Electronic, Battery & Wind-Up\Battery Operated\Pre-1970".
