This listing is for a vintage WHISTLING KOOKY SPOOKY TREE made by Marx in the 1960s. Perhaps the largest and most coveted of the 1950s/60s battery toys, it measures 14 inches tall and is made of tin with rubber arms, nose, and leaves. As the story goes, the Kooky Spooky Tree was not in production long because it scared kids rather than amuse them. Initially the toy was dark brown in color, but Marx lightened the color scheme to light brown and orange. This was no less frightening to kids and production was stopped.

The Kooky Spooky Tree is scarce today, especially in nice shape. This is the rare light brown/orange color. The toy is in very good condition overall with a clean battery box. There are light scratches to the the high points, but nothing obtrusive.

The battery box is made of tin, but for some reason, Marx used a thin plastic liner on the top and bottom of the compartment. The bottom liner is chipped as you can see in the last photo, but it is secured with another piece of plastic underneath. The toy still works great with all functions--moves around with bump-n-go action, swinging arms, alternate blinking eyes, opening/closing mouth, rocking leaves on top, and of course, the deafening whistle!
