James Bond 007'Unmarked Secret Agent's Car' with'Mystery Action' by Spesco/Joy Toys Japan. Very Near-MINT and electronics working! Unlicenced James Bond Toy which had to be re-branded. Watch our video of this car in action!
Made in Japan in the 1960's to capitalise on the success of the early James Bond films starring Sean Connery. But the product was quickly spotted by the Bond franchise and the makers were forced to change the box branding. This example is of the original first issue, with prominent'007' reference numbers to the box on all printed sides. This impressive Chevrolet four door saloon is just under 14 and a half inches in length. Finished in gloss dark Blue with gleaming tin-plate bumpers, grilles, screen surrounds and detailing. Interior litho-printed tin seats and a white plastic steering wheel. Black rubber tyres with detailed, printed metal hubs.
Metal'whip' style aerial on spring support. Concealed large red roof lamp with opening roof hatch.
Battery compartment to gloss black base, with rear on-off switch. Working features: Flashing red roof light which rises above roof level as hatch doors open, with'automatic' raising whip aerial and'siren sound'.
The car performs a cycle of going forward until coming into contact with a surface, then reversing and turning to avoid obstacles. It then lowers the aerial and still-flashing light, before starting the same cycle again until turned off. We carefully loaded two modern Duracell 1.5 volt batteries into the base compartment and found the car to be in excellent working order. The roof hatch parts allowing the flashing red roof lamp to rise, as the side aerial slowly lifts up. The aerial can be moved up slightly from the start position, if you prefer it to reach a more upright raised position. We've left it as is. The'siren sound' is the long wail type popular in the USA in the 1960s. All the still photographs were taken after the two test-drive demonstrations - we were very careful!
The car is in lovely, gleaming near-MINT to very near-MINT original condition. Very slight and tiny rubs to the opening roof hatch doors, caused by the opening/closing action and the red lamp casing touching as it rises. The hatch doors do not meet when closed, but we don't believe this to be a fault, as we've researched the model and found many existing cars show a slight gap.
Light rubs to rear right-hand wheel arch. Very, very light and tiny surface rub to one raised bonnet line (very difficult to spot). Slightest tiny rubs to the base. Very light and slight discolouration to small areas of the front bumper.
Difficult to find a better example of this beauty. The lower holding brown corrugated card box is complete and in near-MINT condition, and contains two corrugated card packing sections. Our photographs form part of the item description, so please look carefully.
