Electric Robot and Son Marx 1950s WORKs Maroon Grey COMPLETE Box & Repro Tools

  

Here he is, the MARX ELECTIRC ROBOT with the enigmatic smile and his diapered baby sidekick SON who's just "hangin' around" (pun intended). It's in great condition; no chips or breaks in the plastic. This is the hard-to-find maroon and grey color scheme. I think The Electric Robot and Son is the first plastic toy robot from Louis Marx in the 1950s. Eyes light up and the robot moves fine, left right or straight, turning his blockhead grin side-to-side.

Press a button and a buzzer in the back can be used to send Morse Code (the Code is printed on the back of the head--see the detail pic). Other built-ins include a chest drawer with repro miniature tools, an antenna that raises or lowers from his head, and a twisty knob arm movement. Please review this information for more details. Unlike so many of the "Sons, " this one has NO BROKEN FEET and is in excellent condition (see pics).

The robot comes with TWO PAIRS of mint, professionally reproduced eyes--pairs of light bulbs--the frosted pair and another clear pair. The robot comes with repro miniature tool set that fits in the drawer.

Originally, these were painted maroon and included the hammer and screwdriver. These are UNPAINTED (so perhaps you can do the honors) and you get a bonus WRENCH! The battery box has some surface rust, but works fine. Use fresh batteries, follow directions. When batteries are NOT installed, the latch has a tendency to drop down and the door to open, BUT WHEN BATTERIES ARE INSTALLED IT IS SNUG AND SECURE.

The switch in back that operates the robot "Forward" or "Reverse"--slide the switch slowly in either direction until the robot moves; I noticed that if you push switch to the EXTREME left or right position, it sometimes loses contact. The antenna can be raised and positioned up manually by hand; the knob won't run it up; once up, however, the knob will run the antenna down.

The two knobs at the shoulders work fine to position the arms, BUT, if you hang the Son on them, they tend to loosen and the Son arcs down. SO--for DISPLAY (see the first pic) you can hang the Son on one of the arms (the right works best), but I do not recommend hanging the Son from an arm and operating the robot in forward or reverse--no wonder so many of these "Sons" have broken feet, swinging as the robot moves.. The box is original, with typical wear from age (see pics) and holds the robot and accessories fine. Don't miss this one! This is from a private collection.
